Job Summary

Connecticut Orthopaedics Specialists is looking for a full-time Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) for our surgery center located in Branford, CT. The Staff Nurse will provide nursing care by assessment, planning, treatment, and evaluation of the patient. Provides safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized and goal-directed nursing care to patients and their families in the Center.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively to patients, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Assists co-workers, anesthesia, physicians, and patients, as necessary.
  • Assists in the orientation and supervision of new employees.
  • Identifies the need to evaluate and revise nursing policies and procedures as they affect patient care.
  • Monitors and assesses the physical status of the patient through personal observation and interaction.
  • Assesses and responds to the individual, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the patient and family members. Acts as the patient’s advocate in the coordination of patient care.
  • Demonstrates understanding and basic interpretation of diagnostic measures such as lab tests, radiology exams , EKGs .
  • Identifies goals for the individual patient and communicates these goals to others involved in the patient’s care.
  • Utilizes professional nursing judgment and takes action to resolve the problems identified for the individual patient.
  • Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain cost without compromising delivery of case .
  • Reduces chances of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices.
  • Reports and documents information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Communicates a positive and caring attitude towards patients, peers, staff, and all other contacts.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients and Center’s communications and documents.
  • Gains knowledge of all equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location, especially emergency drugs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assists in inventory maintenance, storage, and retrieval of supplies and equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Director, Surgical Services, even those tasks not related to a typical surgical tech’s duties.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Current state of Connecticut licensure as a Registered Nurse & CNOR preferred
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support preferred
  • Evidence of continuing education preferred
  • Minimum three (2) years of Operating Room nursing experience.
